Support playing .wav files in Outlook.
I am deploying MDM less MAM to our Office 365 account. This works well but on Android specifically we are unable to open voicemails that our phone system emails to our users in .wav format.
The user gets a message stating "This action is blocked by your IT group"

wma support would be nice as well, our SfB servers send out voicemail as a WMA which cant be opened by any app available via MAM

It is a major problem in Android outlook app. I normally forward that email to my hotmail or gmail account and wav file opens fine in email app.

Given the built-in exemptions (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/intune/app-protection-policy-settings-android#data-transfer-exemptions), it seems like it would be easy for Microsoft to include Google Play Music in the default list. I'm not knowledgeable about Android though, so maybe there are other apps that might be preferred by some organizations, and Microsoft is choosing to remain agnostic on apps?

Here are the steps I took to create an exemption allowing .wav files to be played by Google Music Player from within the Outlook App on Android devices protected by Intune MDM:
1. Login to the Azure Portal (https://portal.azure.com/)
2. Choose Intune
3. Choose Client Apps
4. Choose App protection policies
5. Choose the policy you want to edit (i.e. policy for Android)
6. Choose Properties
7. Choose Data Protection
8. You likely have the setting “Send org data to other apps” set to “Policy managed apps”
9. Directly below this you can configure “Select apps to exempt”
10. Choose Select
11. Here you can add apps so that protected apps will be allowed to send data to them (i.e. Outlook to Google Play Music)
12. Add the name “Google Play Music” and use “com.google.android.music” for the value
13. Click Ok
14. Click Save
I had Azure Information Protection (AIP) installed and it was opening to attempt to play the .wav file but didn’t play the file correctly. I uninstalled this app so the Google Play Music App would be the default program to play .wav files. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Google Play Music app just in case after uninstalling the AIP app. After taking these steps, the Google Music Play app opened when I chose a .wav file from an Outlook App email in my Inbox and it played correctly.
I read on a Microsoft site that these changes can take from 24-48 hours to take effect sometimes. Uninstalling and reinstalling apps may have expedited this, but I can’t say definitively.

I will post the same warning here you will see on the Intune site based on the steps I created above: “Caution: modifying these settings changes how Intune blocks or allows data transfer to other applications. Do not modify these settings unless you understand the potential for data leaks.”
How is this still a problem? This is a day one issue given the amount of people that need this capability on a day-to-day basis..
I downloaded the AIP app, opened then attempted to play a .wav file from my O365 Outlook App and receive the error message " You do not have an app that can open this type of file."

I also tried adding the AIP as a managed app and it is still not opening .wav attachments. How can Microsoft not have a fix for this?
Fix this basic stuff.
looking to deploy MAM, was very disappointed when I noticed that I would not be able to play voicemails?

Yes, critical problem! We are converting from another MDM solution to MAM, and my users are going to be very unhappy about this.

Yes, this is important because there are many companies that have voicemail ".wav" files sent to e-mail!

galaxy s8, aip is set as a managed app. when opening a voicemail(wav file) from outlook, aip opens and does nothing. showing 0.00, i cannot press play. is there a workaround for this
Had the same problem although voicemails accessed via my Office 365 account are in mp3 format and would not play from my mobile phone Downloading the AIP app and selecting it for the voicemail playback solved the issue.
So it suddenly started working for me. I downloaded the AIP app the other day. I tried the other day, and just now and it did NOT work. Then I opened the AIP app (again for the 10th time) and went back into the outlook app and the wav file opened in AIP and I got AIP as an option along side Adobe for Intune, Wod and OneDrive for opening a pdf.
It seems like AIP will work, just take some time for the apps to figure out that AIP is available?
I can get the AIP to open the WAV file attachments from Outlook on Android, but in AIP they show as 0:00 duration and no audio is played.
OK, so I was able to download the app, and I made sure it was included in the targeted apps in the intune policy, but when I click on a WAV file I still just get a message saying there is no app on the device that is allowed to open this content.
How do you open the wav file in the AIP app? I have to company portal app installed, but can't find an AIP app in the play store. When I click on the wav file, I do not get an option to pick an app to open with.

Using the AIP app to open a WAV file worked for me. Without opening in AIP, I received the "...blocked by your IT group" message. I'm advising my users that are having the WAV issue to download and use AIP. We already had it in our Targeted Apps policy so it's protected.
