Give users more votes in UserVoice or remove the limit.
Why am I limited by a number of votes? There are a number of great ideas here that deserve support. However, I have to choose between support other user's ideas or being able to submit my own.
As a result, I am sure that the true support for an idea is not reflected since people have to make that choice.
Just my 2 cents, that will cost me one vote to provide.
Hi, John, we limit the votes because we hope you will prioritize the things you want most. It actually possible to take a vote away from something else, use that vote to create a new item, and then take the vote away from the new item and put it somewhere else. If you see items with zero votes, that’s why. That lets you get ideas out there that others might vote on, even if you want to use your vote somewhere else. I know there are probably lots of things you’d like to see, but we can only do so much at a time, and it helps us to know what you feel is important enough to spend a vote on. Feel free to take your vote back from this one.
Do we get our votes back when MS finally gets around to implementing stuff or after FIVE YEARS should we just take our votes back and apply them to something else since no progress has been made?

Vote limits make sense. It forces us to prioritize our votes and only vote for the ones most important to us. This allows Microsoft to focus on the most important good ideas as opposed to having all good ideas appear equal. There are numerous other considerations that go into which ideas are implemented, like complexity, function over form, bundling related features, etc. That's why you are likely to see some good ideas with lower vote counts get implemented before others with higher counts (low hanging fruit, required for another reason).
Tip: If you run out of votes, consider recovering a vote by removing it from an idea that is already marked as being worked on/in progress, or just one you consider less important than the one you want to vote on now.
I can see this a problem too, as some items that have several votes don't even get a response from Microsoft for over two years... that's a really long time to have to wait to get a vote back, especially on a topic that has over 500 votes - See " Ability to upload and use custom fonts" with 529 votes, opened since April 2016 and no response. This is a really important feature for us, so much that our users might not use the product without it, so now I have to decide to loose a vote for two years, or not represent my customer's interests.
