Make it possible to push User Based registry settings to devices
Sometimes you would like to change registry settings for certain apps. Most of the time those registry settings are in the HKLU hive. I would like to have a configuration policy for MDM to push User Based registry settings.
Ran out of votes , but this is definitely a benefit, SCCM has this functionality for configuration items.
MEM should too.
Seems like a really sensible idea to me... I want to push a setting out that the CSP doesn't support, so there's not ADMX template for it (and I can't make my own Custom one for). I'm left with needing to use a PowerShell, which is a really bad way to do it. The solution mentioned here would enable setting of any registry keys we want, in a much better way.
Considering this was mentioned best part of 3 years ago it's disappointing that there's no MS response of if it's even being considered.
I appreciate this idea and would suggest to extend it to push any kind of registry settings. But yes, especially the user based ones are difficult to set with the available workarounds (e.g. custom app, powershell script).
@David Aside from the fact that is a huge overhead for adding some registry settings, ADMX backed policies doesn't allow you to configure all registry keys
This is kinda sorta doable now using ADMX ingestion, you may just have to create custom ADMX files for your own specific uses. I've successful done this, but it would be nice if there was a GP Preference-like capability baked in.
To me it could also be a json file that is pushed on a Intune synch.
The content to be pushed might come from the AAD device/user object including open extension values which seem made to copied to a registry key 😏
That way we could leverage Intunes push capabilities also for custom app configuration and do not invent our own transport mechanism
