Assigning EMS licences
The Intune admin console needs better guidance for assignment of EMS licences as it is confusing for users who have run an Intune only trial.
During the Intune trial, licences are assigned through the Intune admin console (account.manage.microsoft.com) by selecting the users and assigning an Intune trial licence. When we subsequently bought the whole EMS suite (which includes Intune) I struggled to assign licences. The EMS licences show as active in the subscriptions of the Intune admin console and even present a link to assign the licences which directs to the users section of the Intune admin console, but when you select a user the EMS licence cannot be assigned - it is listed but cannot be ticked as it is greyed out. It wasn't at all obvious that EMS licences need to be assigned through the Azure admin console instead (manage.windowsazure.com). As we don't use Azure for anything else we wouldn't automatically have looked here.
To avoid confusion, I suggest that some information text be displayed on the users page next to where the EMS assignment options are greyed out explaining that licences need to be assigned in the Azure admin console instead and providing a link to it. Also, in the licences section where it shows the EMS subscription the link to assign users (only displayed when no users are assigned) it should link through to Azure rather than the users section of the Intune admin console.
